Sydney, Dec 14, 2005 (ABN Newswire) - BrainZ Instruments (ASX: BZI) has today listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and hopes to expand the use of its BRM2 Neonatal brain monitoring technology.

Shares opened on at a strong premium to its issue price of 50 cents per share, beginning trading at 54 cents and by late morning were at 53 cents.

The monitors are now installed in 22 hospitals throughout Australia and New Zealand, mainly used for neonatal intensive care units (ICUs).

"We believe that monitoring of the brain in ICU settings will become more accepted as a standard of care," "Our focus to date has been in the neonatal ICU market, but there are obvious potential applications in the areas of paediatric, adult and cardiac intensive care unit settings and we will be targeting these areas in the medium to long term." Dr Vaughan said.

INFORMATION on the BRM2 Neonatal Brain Monitor

The BRM 2 Brain Monitor is a portable bedside electroencephalograph (EEG) that can be used to detect changes and abnormalities in the cerebral function of patients in Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Units.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The BRM 2 Brain Monitor can be used to both detect and monitor the progress of brain injury resulting from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). This makes it ideal as a screening tool for neuroprotective strategies such as protective hypothermia.

The BRM2 can be used continuously over a period of days to highlight trending of brain function, to assist in the identification of seizures and to assess the effectiveness of anticonvulsant drugs given to treat them.

Paediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
The BRM 2 Brain Monitor is a useful tool for monitoring brain status, identifying seizures and seeing the impact of clinical interventions on brain function within the PICU. It is currently being trialed in the area of paediatric cardiac surgery.

Data Management
The BRM 2 records high-quality digital files for later analysis or review:
Data file generated for each recording, including patient and session information, events and notes.
Files easily downloaded from monitor for off-line analysis (see offline tools under Accessories) or permanent storage.
Flash card and reader supplied.
Login and password protection for data security.
