BlueScope Steel (ASX:BSL) has signed a long-term joint collaborative technical agreement with Japan's Nippon Steel Corporation (TYO:5401) to develop next-generation coated steel products for global building and construction markets. Under the agreement, the two companies will undertake joint research and development.
Havilah Resources NL (ASX:HAV) has previously published encouraging metallurgical results for its 100% owned Lilydale iron ore project southeast of Yunta, that show the primary low grade iron ore can be beneficiated into a high iron, low impurity magnetite product. Similar results have now been reported by several junior companies, exploring in joint venture on various Braemar Iron Formation iron ore projects in northeastern South Australia. This is indicating an emerging potentially important new iron ore province that has appreciable resource potential in addition to favourable metallurgical characteristics for upgrading to a premium product, and proximity to rail and port facilities.
The Australian shares opened firmer this morning after Wall Street rose on speculation that the Federal Reserve would provide more stimulus to the US economy. Mining sector delivered a strong gain in early trade, as BHP Billiton posted a report of record annual production.
