Vacon Oyj (HEL:VAC1V) Vacon Group, PRESS RELEASE, 30 October 2008 at 10:00 am:

The AC drives manufacturer Vacon introduces a new product range, specifically tailored to building automation industry, comprising of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector (HVAC) applications. Globally, 40% of the energy is used in buildings, where HVAC applications are the biggest consumers. AC drives can dramatically decrease the energy consumption of HVAC applications, thus contributing to a global reduction of CO2 emissions.

"We are proud to launch a new product which in many ways will set a new benchmark for AC drives in the building automation industry. The Vacon 100 HVAC is our first AC drive that is purpose-built and designed to meet the stringent requirements of the energy-intensive HVAC sector," says Heikki Hiltunen, Executive Vice President, Vacon.

In HVAC applications, AC drives bring both energy-saving and controllability benefits, thus offering a huge potential reduction in CO2 emissions globally.

"Today, the installed base of AC drives in HVAC applications can reduce CO2 emissions by an amount that is generated by 50 million cars - that is, approximately the entire fleet of cars in Germany," Hiltunen continues.
The Vacon 100 HVAC is very easy and straightforward to use. The basic daily functions are easily accessible via a modern graphical user interface, and the most demanding applications can be made with Vacon's standard programming tools. The Vacon 100 HVAC drives comply with the requirements of the new harmonics standard IEC/EN 61000-3-12.

The Vacon 100 HVAC takes environmental considerations to the next level. The printed circuit board welding is lead-free, complying with the RoHS, Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive. All the recyclable parts are specially marked for easy recycling. Unlike traditional AC drives using electrolytic capacitors - which are considered as hazardous waste in the EU -, the power capacitors of the Vacon 100 HVAC use environmentally-friendly thin film technology.

The Vacon 100 HVAC incorporates the TCP/IP communication protocol as standard, allowing easy connection to Ethernet-based networks for commissioning, control and remote diagnostic purposes. "We firmly believe that, in the future, the TCP/IP becomes the standard way of communication in building automation systems. We have already seen that a good many Vacon AC drives equipped with TCP/IP have been delivered from our factory," Hiltunen concludes.

The Vacon 100 HVAC will be on show to the public at the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair in Nürnberg, Germany, 25-27 November 2008.

Press Conference

Vacon will host a press conference on the Vacon 100 HVAC on 25 November 2008 at 16:30 - 17:00 German time at the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair in Nürnberg, Germany.
