Sydney, Dec 20, 2007 AEST (ABN Newswire) - IBA Health Group Limited (ASX: IBA) - Australia's largest listed specialist information technology company, has today completed the installation of new patient administration systems at seven public and private hospitals run by Australia's Mater Health Services Brisbane as part of a multi-million dollar upgrade.

All seven hospitals are now using the i.Patient Manager (i.PM) from IBA's iSOFT subsidiary taking the Brisbane hospital group one step closer to a single patient administration, scheduling and billing system for the enterprise. i.PM is an important building block in Mater's journey toward an electronic patient record. The system is running on a single database and dedicated hardware giving faster access and improved accuracy, helping minimise duplicate records and reduces costs.

iSOFT has upgraded existing i.PM systems at the Mater private hospitals at South Brisbane and Redland and replaced outdated systems at Mater's Adult Hospital, Children's Hospital, Mother's Hospital, Children's Private Hospital, and Mother's Private Hospital.

Mal Thatcher, Mater Health Services' Chief Information Officer, said: "Having a common system across all sites is a vital component of our overall Smart Hospital strategy. By unifying our patient administration system, Mater Health Services is able to introduce a common patient identifier across all our sites. This will greatly improve accuracy, reduce duplications and increase efficiency across all hospitals and departments within. The upgrade is a key enabler of our overall strategy which aims to use ICT to fundamentally change healthcare delivery," he added.."The provision of a single patient identifier and scheduling system is fundamental to the building of our electronic medical record. This application will ultimately help us achieve our objective of providing an information rich environment for both clinicians and patients to improve clinical outcomes and the quality of patient care."

Steve Garrington, CEO (AsiaPAC MEA) for IBA said "The successful completion of this project continues to build on a long-standing relationship with Mater Health Services. The company has supplied patient administration systems at both Mater's private and public hospitals since the early 1990's. In fact in 2000, the Mater Private Hospital Redland became the first hospital in Australia to use i.PM. Mater's Smart Hospital strategy is seen within the industry as a role model for the effective utilisation of ICT to achieve tangible results within healthcare. With the growing demands on the healthcare system, Mater Health Services is taking great strides in paving the way for other health providers to follow."

"Our decision to continue with iSOFT was based on iSOFT's ability to deliver a solution that would cope with Mater's complex requirements for the delivery of health care services for both public and private patients across multiple settings," Thatcher said. "The commitment and professionalism of iSOFT's people is impressive in what has been an extremely complex project."

Mater Health Services Brisbane is Queensland's biggest and most comprehensive not-for-profit hospital group. Employing more than 6,000 staff across three public and four private hospital facilities, Mater cares for more than 500,000 people a year. Mater has built a reputation for clinical excellence through a long-standing commitment to cancer services, women's health, paediatrics, neurosciences orthopaedics and research.
