Adelaide, Sep 28, 2006 AEST (ABN Newswire) - The ongoing search for new Australian uranium deposits took another step forward today with ASX-listed Maximus Resources Limited commencing its first drilling program on a project in WA's Murchison Region near Mount Magnet.

Maximus (ASX: MXR) announced today it had commenced a 2,000 metre rotary air blast and aircore drilling program on its Narndee palaeochannel project, 80 kilometres southeast of Mount Magnet.

The project contains two key areas of interest - the Wondinong channel in the north, and the Windimurra channel in the south.

The exploration program announced today will drill more than 200 holes along the 30 kilometre Wondinong palaeochannel at the northern extremity of the Windimurra complex.

Drilling is expected to take about three weeks with first results due in November.

"The program will test calcrete-hosted uranium in this section of the project area and at less than 15 metres from surface," Maximus' Managing Director, Dr Kevin Wills, said today.

"This channel and the nearby Windimurra palaeochannel also contained within the Windimurra complex were first identified as uranium-bearing by WMC Resources in the 1970s during a campaign which led to the discovery of the Yeelirrie palaeochannel uranium deposit just to the north," Dr Wills said.

"There has, however, been no further drilling for nearly 30 years on this section of the Narndee project area.

"A recent compilation of the previous WMC reconnaissance drilling by Maximus indicates that the better thicknesses of calcrete within the Wondinong palaeochannel are likely to host more significant grades of uranium mineralisation and they are not necessarily exposed at the surface."

As well as Narndee, Maximus has uranium exploration assets in South Australia and the Northern Territory and nickel, gold and copper exploration projects in three states.
