The Australian stock market opened lower this morning, after global markets suffered a heavy loss and all key market indices dropped significantly.
The Australia share market Monday closed firmer on hope of a gradual appreciation of the Chinese yuan. At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index rose 60.7 points, or 1.33 per cent, to 4612.6 points and the broader All Ordinaries index added 58.6 points, or 1.28 per cent, to 4632.7 points. The market was also inspired by the news that Australian federal government struck a A$11 billion deal with Telstra over the planned national broadband network.
The Australian shares were stronger after an unexpectedly improved employment data. The market was also helped by a rise in Rio Tinto shares on expectation that it would follow its BHP Billiton in reporting upbeat earnings. At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index closed 40.9 points, or 0.91 per cent higher, at 4554.3 points while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 42.8 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 4575.8 points.
