US Economy On The Brink
As the US staggers towards the hopeful approval of the $US700 million bailout plan, starting with the US Senate sometime this morning (Wednesday night in the US), the shape of the US economy continues to wobble.
Midday Market Roundup 01/10/2008
Our market has made up nearly all of yesterday losses – up 135 or 2.9% - up 166 at best. Resources outperforming after heavy falls yesterday, Both BHP and RIO are up 5% and 6%. Financials are up 3% across the board with Westpac Bank outperforming its peers – up 6%, its takeover target St George is also up 4.3%. Macquarie Group down 50c despite the market rocketing along.
FKP/BHP/ABS
Another industrial stock to feel the heat yesterday from an earnings downgrade was FKP Property Group.
Japanese Economy Slowing
More evidence of the recession the Japanese economy seems to be sliding into, unchecked.
Markets Higher
US markets rose strongly, cutting Monday's losses in half as investors went all optimistic and bet the $US700 billion bailout package would be approved.
