ALEC Signs Enterprise Agreement to Standardize on Aconex

Dubai, Sep 20, 2016 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Aconex Limited (googlechartASX:ACX), a global leader of digital innovation in construction, today announced that ALEC has agreed to standardize on Aconex solutions for managing information and processes across all of its projects.

ALEC began operations in 1999 and has grown to become one of the leading construction companies in the Middle East, with over 11,200 employees. As the preferred contractor on a number of major capital projects, ALEC has an extensive list of developments including resort hotels, themed retail complexes, high-rise towers, airport terminals, and commercial buildings throughout the UAE, Qatar and Oman.

ALEC CEO: "Commitment to Excellence in Collaboration"

"The real challenge on any large project is ensuring all the players communicate and work together effectively - so that everyone succeeds at the end of day," said ALEC CEO Kez Taylor. "Commitment to excellence in collaboration is therefore critical, as you're only as strong as your weakest link. Excellence is achieved by people, partners and processes, and is facilitated by the use of best-in-class collaboration tools like Aconex. We value the contribution of Aconex in supporting our goals, and we look forward to a long-term partnership."

Mr. Taylor was named both Construction CEO of the Year and Health and Safety Leader of the Year in the Big Project Middle East Construction and Sustainability Awards of Excellence for 2015. ALEC has been awarded the GCC Contractor of the Year for four consecutive years at the prestigious Construction Week Awards.

One of ALEC's most notable projects on Aconex was the recently completed Concourse A at Dubai International Airport (DBX). The US$4.5-billion expansion added 20 aircraft gates and 528,000 square meters of shops, lounges and hotels, increasing the airport's passenger-handling capacity to 68 million annually. When ALEC was commissioned to build Concourse D at DBX, the firm chose Aconex. On completion in 2017, the US$816-million project will occupy 340,000 square meters of space ? twice the footprint of London's Heathrow Airport.

"Building Excellence" through High-Quality, Iconic Projects

In addition to Concourse D at DBX, ALEC has implemented Aconex on new projects since signing the enterprise agreement. These include:

- The Residences at Marina Gates. The four-million-square-foot development consists of 1,000 luxury apartments in three residential towers and a retail area at the gateway to Dubai Marina. Construction of the first and second towers are underway.

- Jebel Ali School. The new school will offer a foundation to 13th grade British curriculum. The campus will have primary and secondary buildings that include a sports hall, an auditorium, an external swimming pool, and outdoor sports pitches.

Commitment to Innovation and Technology

ALEC's decision to standardize on Aconex was based on a history of success with the collaboration platform over many projects, beginning with the award-winning Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri luxury hotel, apartments and villas in Abu Dhabi, completed in 2007. According to Maisam Zaidi, head of IT at ALEC, the innovative use of technology is key to the firm's strategy for growth and market leadership throughout the Middle East.

"Our objective is to be the leading construction company in all of the areas in which we operate," said Mr. Zaidi. "To accomplish that, we need to be a leader in every aspect of our own operations. Technology plays a key role in the automation and standardization of processes across our entire project portfolio. Adopting Aconex - a secure, neutral, cloud-based enterprise solution - is an important part of our global strategy, driving change not just within ALEC, but across the entire construction and engineering industry."

Increasing Efficiency and Productivity through Collaboration

The ALEC enterprise agreement includes unlimited use of Aconex solutions to support the entire project lifecycle:

- The Aconex project-wide collaboration platform for tendering, design reviews, document control, and workflow management, plus data exchange with internal and external systems through application programming interfaces (APIs).

- Aconex Reports, which provide quick, actionable overviews of the project through easy-to-use dashboards. ALEC plans to leverage the platform's reporting capabilities by integrating Aconex Reports with its own recently launched business intelligence software through an Aconex API.

- Aconex Field, a mobile solution that dramatically enhances and optimizes issues management for quality and safety inspections, both structured and ad hoc.

- Aconex Mobile construction apps for accessing the platform from the field and other remote locations.

"Whenever we start a new project, our team asks us when we will implement Aconex Field," said Mr. Zaidi. "It has become an important tool for quality control and is being used extensively on the Dubai International Airport Concourse D project. We have tested a number of field inspection solutions, and Aconex Field stands out for its functionality and ease of use."

"This enterprise agreement reflects the strength of our business with ALEC and its project partners over many years," said Henry Jones, senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and global accounts at Aconex. "We are pleased to cement our relationship with a tier-one contractor that is driving innovation across its operations to successfully deliver complex and demanding construction projects."
