To Restart Drilling Operations
Sydney, June 12, 2012 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Thomson Resources Limited (
ASX:TMZ) is pleased to announce the restart of field operations after an extended rain delay with aircore drilling to commence next week on several of its projects in the Cobar region of NSW (Figure 1). These projects are believed to have good potential for Cobar-type base and precious metal, porphyry copper/gold and orogenic gold deposits.
Individual Targets for testing:
- Warraweena - a strong magnetic low attributed to pyrrhotite mineralisation will be tested for interpreted porphyry copper-gold alteration. This anomaly has never been previously tested.
- Byrock - a surface copper-gold-silver anomaly lying adjacent to a bulls-eye magnetic anomaly. The magnetic anomaly was tested by a single hole in 1971, but the surface soil anomaly that lies 500m to the NW has not yet been followed up.
- Louth - a magnetic anomaly 2km north of the Ares gold prospect.
- Achilles - two Cobar-type targets - Mt Boorithumble and Achilles 3. At Mt Boorithumble a single diamond hole was drilled in 1981 which intersected 3m at 2% Pb, 2% Zn, 1.2% Cu, 0.5 g/t Au and 150 g/t Ag from 117m. Achilles 3 is associated with strong Cu-Pb-Zn soil geochemistry and phyllic alteration within a major shear zone.
Follow-up reverse circulation (RC) drill testing of targets generated from this program and those already identified in Thomson Resources' other projects will take place later in the year.
New Exploration Licence Application
Thomson has applied for an Exploration Licence (ELA) adjacent to the Endeavor Mine lead-zincsilver mine, currently being operated by CBH Resources Ltd north of Cobar (Figure 2). The area is prospective for Cobar-type deposits as well as intrusion-related and orogenic gold deposits.
The area has been explored previously by several exploration companies, but only 21 exploration holes have been drilled within the area to date, targeting just 2 magnetic anomalies. Thomson has identified seven gold and base-metal geochemical anomalies to follow up.
Thomson considers the new area to be highly prospective and plans on-ground exploration once the title is granted.
