Havilah Resources (ASX:HAV) High Grade Magnetite Concentrate At Lilydale Iron Project
Perth, April 28, 2010 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Havilah Resources (
ASX:HAV) announce, composite drill chip samples from three recently completed shallow reconnaissance RC percussion drillholes at the Lilydale iron ore project were submitted for Davis Tube testwork at ALS Chemex laboratory in Perth. The Davis Tube analysis is designed to determine the % recovery of the magnetic minerals (in this case magnetite - Fe3O4) from the bulk sample. Chemical analysis of the resultant magnetic fraction gives the Fe content of the concentrate as well as the levels of impurity elements.
The results tabulated below show that for the two grind sizes chosen (i.e 38 and 75 microns), concentrate recoveries range from 18.5 - 36.7% by weight, with an average of 70% Fe in the concentrate. The levels of impurity elements such as silica, alumina, phosporous and titanium are low, indicating that a high purity, high value magnetite concentrate can be produced. On average, this relatively pure magnetite product represents about 28.6% of the original iron formation, or in other words is obtained by discarding on average 71.4% of the original material.

Davis Tube test results for three composite drill chip samples from three Havilah drillholes at Lilydale
These results compare more than favourably with those recently published for the Braemar Iron Formation by other explorers in the region (e.g Carpentaria Exploration Limited -CAP).
Ample tonnage potential is available, with more than 400 million tonnes targeted in the top 100m of the iron formation projected over a strike length of more than 35 km within Havilah's 100% owned EL 3519*. The Lilydale project has the advantage that potentially economic widths of iron formation extend almost from the surface, with negligible overburden and only a thin oxidized cap (see results above for samples from only 8-13 metres depth). In addition, the material is considerably softer than silica-rich magnetite iron formations elsewhere in Australia, thus requiring less energy for grinding.
Dr Bob Johnson, Havilah's Chairman, said that the favourable recoveries of very pure magnetite product with low impurity levels from the drill samples had established that the Lilydale iron ore project had very good development potential.
"While these are preliminary results from drill chips and considerably more confirmatory test work is required, these initial results are extremely encouraging. Combined with the negligible overburden, high tonnage potential*, relatively soft ore and favourable logistics, the present indications are that the Lilydale project is capable of delivering a premium product with potentially good returns" he said.
The Lilydale iron ore projects lies 50 km southeast of Yunta, which is located on the Transcontinental Railway, some 200 km east of Port Pirie. Aeromagnetic anomalies associated with magnetic ironstone indicate at least 35 km of strike of the Braemar Iron Formation lie within EL 3519. The five drillholes recently completed by Havilah represent the only exploration holes ever drilled into this portion of the Braemar Iron Formation and the Davis Tube test results are the first ever published from the area.
Havilah is presently in discussions with potential Asian joint venture partners to provide funding for future planned resource drilling and feasibility studies.
* The potential quantity and grade of the exploration targets is conceptual in nature and there has been insufficient exploration to define a Mineral Resource. It is uncertain if further exploration will result in the determination of a Mineral Resource.
About Havilah Resources Ltd
Havilah Resources Ltd (ASX:HAV) is a debt free South Australian gold producer having recently financed and developed its first gold mine at Portia in north-eastern South Australia. It plans to follow on with three copper-gold-cobalt mining developments at North Portia, Kalkaroo and Mutooroo, which are underpinned by a JORC resources mineral inventory of over 1.4 million tonnes of copper, 3.6 million ounces of gold, and 18,000 tonnes of cobalt.
