STOCKHOLM, Sweden - August 19 2008 - Danish mobile and ISP service provider company Sonofon has improved its capacity and service offering with the first installation of 10G CWDM single fiber equipment from Transmode, a leading provider of optical networking solutions.

Sonofon is one of the largest mobile telecoms and ISP companies in Denmark with a staff of about 1,400. The company, which has been a long-time customer of Transmode solutions, is owned by Telenor, one of the major telcos in Scandinavia with mobile operations in 12 countries worldwide.

Sonofon started using Transmode's TM-Series of WDM equipment in 2005, when Transmode was awarded a Telenor contract in Norway, which was extended across the whole of Scandinavia. More recently, when Sonofon was planning to increase network capacity to 10G in 2008, the company quickly decided to select Transmode's 10G CWDM solution. Sonofon employs both single fiber and fiber pair configurations of Transmode's TM-Series, giving it the widest possible range of network topology options.

Sonofon is one of the first customers to introduce and operate Transmode's bi-directional 10G CWDM single fiber configuration - a key advantage of the Transmode TM-Series. The TM-Series is a family of carrier-grade optical transport products that provide the transport of any service between 100Mb/s and 10Gb/s in multi-reach transport applications.

Transmode continues to lead the industry's developments based on pluggable optics. Prior to 2006 CWDM was restricted to a transmission rate of 2.5G while 10G was only available over DWDM. In early 2006, Transmode was the first company to introduce CWDM optics operating at 4G, and in December 2007, 10G CWDM channels. Therefore it is now possible simply to upgrade a CWDM network to 4G or 10G by the addition of the relevant muxponder or transponder.

"This development by Transmode enables the development of a network based on the most economical CWDM setup while still allowing an upgrade path to 10Gb/s," said Björn Andersson, Vice President Sales at Transmode. "Previously you would have needed to deploy a more expensive DWDM solution to have this upgrade path. So we believe this development is a real killer app.

"As well as benefiting from a dedicated Transmode network for its mobile backhaul services, Sonofon is now also migrating the Internet traffic of its Cybercity sister company onto this newly enhanced network," he added. "Sonofon's parent company Telenor has also applied a similar approach using Transmode equipment for its mobile and Internet activities on its networks in other countries."

Sonofon's Operations Manager Michael Danielsen added, "We are very pleased with the newly installed Transmode technology and dedicated network backbone. Our choice of Transmode - and particularly for the new single fiber 10G CWDM - reflects both Sonofon's and Telenor's confidence in Transmode as a forward-thinking and reliable supplier."

About Sonofon Sonofon is one of the largest mobile telecommunications operators in Denmark. The company provides voice and data communication services in addition to fixed line telephony and Internet access primarily to the enterprise market. Sonofon was the first Danish operator to offer products combining fixed network services with mobile services.

Sonofon is part of parent company Telenor's telecommunications operations (along with Cybercity, CBB and Tele2 Danmark) in Denmark. Those businesses together bring cell phone service to about 1.7 million customers while providing about a quarter million wireline broadband subscribers with DSL service.
