Kongsberg Automotive Holding ASA The production in the Kongsberg Automotive plant in Itajubá in Brazil will be transferred to an existing plant in Jundiaí, located some 60 km outside of São Paulo. The Itajubá plant produces gear shifters to the South American automotive market. The transfer is expected to be completed by December 2008. The Itajubá plant employs today currently 35 people. It is expected that many of the employees in Itajubá will follow the transfer to Jundiaí.
The relocation of the Itajubá plant is necessary due to the company's growth plans in the region. By combining the two factories, KA will reach critical size and better be able to serve the South American market.
The Brazilian economy is currently experiencing the strongest growth the last 3 decades and the automotive production has in recent years increased by double digit figures. "There are a lot of opportunities for Kongsberg Automotive in South America", says Trond Fiskum, Managing Director of Kongsberg Automotive in Brazil.
