Manila, Nov 8, 2006 AEST (ABN Newswire) - An Asian Development Bank (ASX: ATB) grant package totaling US$900,000 will help boost the Tajikistan Government's results management for its poverty reduction strategy. The package comprises a grant of $500,000 from the Government of Sweden and $400,000 from ADB's Cooperation Fund in support of managing for development results.
"This project will bring a paradigm shift in the monitoring of public expenditures by creating enhanced accountability for results," says Neeraj Jain, ADB Country Director for Tajikistan.
The technical assistance (TA) will help the Government develop a systematic results and monitoring framework for its strategy. The framework will facilitate planning and monitoring of development assistance to Tajikistan through greater country ownership and donor coordination, as envisaged in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
"It is the right time for the Government of Tajikistan to change focus from monitoring inputs to monitoring outcomes, as the Government has undertaken structural reforms that lay a solid foundation for results-based monitoring," adds Mr. Jain.
The project will be conducted over two years from March 2007 to around March 2009. The Ministry of Economy and Trade (MOET) is the executing agency for the TA under the overall coordination of the President's Office. The Government will contribute $100,000 in kind toward the TA's total cost of $1 million.
