Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, will address the World Capital Markets Symposium (WCMS) in Kuala Lumpur on 27-28 September 2010, marking his speaking debut in Malaysia, the organizers of the Symposium announced on Wednesday. Wales, who founded the free, multi-lingual virtual encyclopedia in 2001, will join policy-makers and financial industry experts in sharing their thoughts at the Symposium, with the theme "Transforming Capital Markets: Leadership, Change and Governance".
US stocks overnight rose overnight as investors were looking for positive corporate results to fuel the rally after a disappointing start of the earnings season. A brokerage upgrade of drugmaker Merck & Co and an upbeat outlook from Kraft Foods Inc has helped to lift the healthcare and consumer sectors. Financial shares also climbed during a hearing over the financial crisis on Capitol Hill.
US markets closed flat overnight after a report of private-sector job losses and Federal Reserve minutes showing concern about weakness in the labour market. Asian stocks ended mostly higher Wednesday as investors were still in an upbeat mood, but China's Shanghai Composite index was 0.9 per cent lower due to worries over inflation and a possible fund raising by Bank of China.
China's largest down apparel company, Bosideng International Holdings Limited ("Bosideng" or the "Company"; HKG:3998, together with its subsidiaries the "Group") has won two major awards in the PRC on August 8, 2009. It has once again received the "China Mask Award" for three consecutive years at the 3rd China Brand Festival Award Presentation Ceremony. On a separate occasion, Bosideng was named amongst "2008-2009 Top 10 Most Competitive Enterprises in the China Apparel Industry" by China National Textile and Apparel Council ("CNTAC").
Yesterday Asian markets ended lower after big overnight losses on Wall Street and on concerns about European banks. Tokyo's Nikkei index reached its lowest since October. Shanghai Composite saw a massive 4.7% fall in a single day. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index ended up 0.6% and Taiwan's Taiex gained 0.2%.
Asian markets ended mixed Tuesday as and financial stocks gained but property developers lost ground on a weak outlook for prices.
