Perth, Aug 21, 2008 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Western Australian iron ore company, Brockman Resources Limited (ASX:BRM), has firmly cemented the world-class credentials of its flagship Marillana Iron Ore Project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, today announcing another major increase in the JORC Code compliant resource estimate to 1.6 billion tonnes of haematite mineralisation.

Highlights:

- Total Mineral Resource estimate for Marillana increased to 1.6 billion tonnes of iron ore

- Potential for +950Mt of Final Product grading 57.4-60.0% Fe (DSO + Beneficiated Haematite

- Includes 347Mt of Indicated Resources within the North-West Sector

- Significant new zone of high-grade DSO intersected over a 2km strike length at Abalone, not as yet included in this resource estimate

- Further RC, Sonic and Caldwell drilling proceeding to upgrade Mineral Resource to Indicated category and further refine metallurgical testwork

The revised estimate represents a 40% increase over the previously announced figure of 1.1 billion tonnes reported on 5 March 2008, and has the potential to increase the Marillana Project's total estimated shipping inventory (Direct Shipping Ore plus beneficiated ore) to 952 million tonnes of marketable product grading 57.4-60.0% Fe. This represents an increase of 40% over the previously announced estimate of 680 million tonnes reported on 1 July 2008.

The upgraded resource inventory was prepared by Perth-based Snowden Mining Industry Consultants Pty Ltd, and encompasses both Channel Iron Deposits (CID's) with grades ranging from 55-60% Fe (55% Fe cut-off) and detrital ore with grades ranging from 40-62% Fe. The resource calculation was based on four continuous mineralisation zones -- the North-West Sector, Rockhole Bore, Abalone and Abalone East.

Managing Director of Brockman Resources, Mr Wayne Richards, said the expanded resource provided further confirmation of the world-scale potential of the Marillana Project, with considerable additional exploration upside still remaining - both at Marillana itself and at Brockman's additional twelve 100% owned iron ore tenements within the Pilbara district.

"With a resource of 1.6 billion tonnes, operations at Marillana now look set to span a very long life in the Pilbara, targeting a long-term production level of 15 to 25 million tonnes per annum or greater," he said.

"I am very pleased with the progress of the Brockman Team and Marillana Project, as we continue to achieve our key milestones associated with Project Development and build a high quality, long-life resource inventory," Mr Richards continued.

As part of the recent drilling, a significant new zone of direct shipping CID mineralisation was intersected on five consecutive drill lines over a strike length of more than 2km at Abalone, with best intercepts including 10m @ 55.8% Fe, 10m @ 57.3% Fe, 9m @ 56.3% Fe and 5m @ 58.5% Fe. This mineralisation has not yet been separately modelled in this resource estimate as the hole spacing is too broad.

Programmes of Sonic, Caldweld and RC drilling are continuing at Marillana to further extend the resource definition and upgrade the current Mineral Resource inventory to the Indicated category.

The upgraded resource estimate follows the confirmation earlier this month that Brockman had secured a major infrastructure breakthrough, with the Western Australian State Government confirming the reservation of two new multi-user berths in the Port Hedland inner harbour for the North West Iron Ore Alliance - of which Brockman is a founding member - and other potential junior producers.

It is expected that the two berths and associated port infrastructure may be operational as early as 2012, which would coincide with the planned Stage 2 ramp up in production at Marillana of potentially 15 to 25 million tonnes of iron ore per annum in 2012.

Mr Richards said ongoing resource definition drilling is being completed in parallel with the current Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Stage 1 Project at Marillana. Concurrently, "Expression of Interest" documents associated with the development of the Feasibility Study (FS) for the Stage 2 (15-25 Mtpa) Project have been circulated, with an award of the contract scheduled for September.

"Stage 1 of the Marillana Project consists of the establishment of a processing plant and infrastructure for an initial start up rate of 2 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) production, with mining expected to commence in late 2009," Mr Richards said. "Brockman expects to announce the appointment of a Project Manager to lead both the DFS and construction activities shortly." Mr Richards also confirmed that the recent raising of A$112.5 million will be utilised to bring the Stage 1 Project into operation.

The Marillana Project is located 100km north of Newman between the Hamersley Ranges and Fortescue River Valley in Western Australia's world-class Pilbara iron ore region. The tenements surrounding the Marillana licence area, E 47/1408, are held by high-profile iron ore producers and developers Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Hancock Mining and Fortescue Metals Group.
