Imtech N.V. (AMS:IM) Gouda, the Netherlands - Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) has made a major step forward in the energy & environment market in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Imtech has recently acquired four contracts in different sub-segments, namely the refining of sludge for use as biomass for energy recovery, wind energy, reduction of air pollution in water treatment and energy reduction in residential districts. The total value of the orders comes to almost 61 million euro.

Biomass Sewage is treated in sewage treatment plants before it reaches the sea. This process creates sewage sludge that contains all kinds of toxic substances. By sustainably treating, cleaning and refining the sludge it can be reused as biofuel. This occurs in innovative biogas stations. Anglian Water Services (AWS), a regional drinking water and sewage company in East Anglia (a region north-east of London), has established an Asset Management Programme for this purpose. As part of the programme Imtech is providing the complete technology for this advanced energy solution together with its joint-venture partner Galliford Try. The contract contains the second phase of a multi-year investment programme. This concerns a combination of innovative sludge processing technology (including heating, mixing, warming, centrifuging, hydrolysing and pasteurising) and biogas technology. The refined sludge (biosolids) is gasified in two enormous biogas stations to generate 2 million KW of sustainable energy and then returned to the electricity grid. The first phase of the project was completed successfully earlier this year.

Wind energy SWS Lisheen Mines Windfarm Ltd has commissioned Imtech to provide at Lisheen Mines in Kilkenny, Ireland, the complete design engineering, construction and commissioning scopes for a 110 kV substation connected by 33 km of high-tech turbine cables to 21 wind turbines that have a combined generating capacity of 50 MW. This is the first time that Imtech is carrying out a project in the UK & Ireland in this growing segment of the market, making this order strategically important and a breakthrough in the wind energy market.

Reduction of air pollution For Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and as part of the Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Management Alliance (AMA), Imtech is providing the engineering and complete technology for an air pollution reduction programme at a total of 33 medium-sized water treatment plants in Wales.

Energy reduction In the London borough of Ealing, Catalyst Housing Group is working on an innovative energy-reducing programme for renovated homes. In an initial phase (a block of more than 250 homes) Imtech is providing an environment-friendly decentralised (local) energy station that will generate energy through cogeneration (combined heat/power). An energy reduction of at least 10% has been targeted. Imtech is also likely to be involved in the second phase of the project (a block of 125 homes). The project is similar to an energy reduction project carried out successfully by Imtech at Church End in Neasden. This has established a clear position for Imtech in this growing segment of the energy market in London. Recently the authorities in London announced a substantial investment programme for residential energy reduction. Imtech's strategy for energy & environment Imtech occupies an increasingly prominent place in the fast-growing European energy & environment market, mainly in the UK & Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain and also in the international marine market. Imtech is undertaking a wide range of activities including sustainable exploration of energy sources, generation of sustainable and environment-friendly energy, energy reduction, lower emissions of harmful (greenhouse) gases, reduction of fine particles and delivery of clean drinking water and sewage. The share of energy & environment activities in 2007 amounted to approximately 750 million euro, or 22% of total revenues of more than 3.3 billion euro. Imtech's strategy is focused on reinforcing this prominent position
