Hypo Real Estate Holding AG: Law Firm Seeks Damages For Investors

Munich, 16th January 2008 German-based law firm Rotter Rechtsanwaelte has been hired by disgruntled investors of Hypo Real Estate Holding AG to claim damages against the company and its directors after shares of the company have plunged more than 30% on 15th January 2008. On that day the Munich-based property and public-finance lender announced to take a charge of € 390 million for losses on investments in collateralised debt obligations (CDO) in the fourth quarter of 2007.

In several ad-hoc and press releases since August 2007 the company repeatedly had calmed down investors that the credit-market crisis had passed it by and that there would be no impact. Investors who purchased shares of the company between 3rd August 2007 and 14th January 2008 might be able to recover damages pursuant to section 37b of the German Securities Trade Law, which rules the consequences for misleading statements made by listed companies. "The news about the charge taken by Hypo Real Estate Holding AG is similar to what we saw last summer at IKB Industriebank AG, where we have been hired for filing lawsuits in a numerous cases by private and institutional investors", says Bernd Jochem, partner at Rotter Rechtsanwaelte.
