Stäfa, Switzerland, Dec 21, 2007 - (Hugin via ABN Newswire) - Walter Meier has taken the following actions in order to further pursue the new strategic direction adopted in March 2007:
Sale of Mato Germany On December 20, 2007, it was agreed to sell to its managers the company Mato Handels GmbH, which is involved with the sales of CNC machine tools in the German market. The primary reason for this decision was the lack of synergy with its Swiss affiliated company due to a fundamentally different product portfolio. The 12 employees are assured of jobs under the new employer.
Sale of Novasina The Novasina profit center, headquartered in Switzerland and specializing in precision measurement of air and material humidity, became independent as of August 1, 2007, as the result of a management buyout. The newly incorporated Novasina AG was able to take over the full workforce of 16 employees.
Global Sourcing established as a new business unit within the Processing Division As of January 1, 2008, WMH Tool Group's key account business will be outsourced to a new business unit called Global Sourcing. This measure promises Walter Meier better coordination and speed in addressing the requirements of its customer base, which consists mainly of home centers. Unlike the rest of the WMH Tool Group's business, which is based on the strong Jet, Powermatic and Wilton brands, Global Sourcing supplies most of its products under the customers' private label brands. Global Sourcing has branches in Switzerland, Canada and China, employing a total of more than 60. Further information is available at www.globalsourcing.com.
These steps will enable Walter Meier to pursue an even more focused strategy. As in the past, the Climate Division will strive to acquire further manufacturers in the fields of cooling and ventilation, while the goal is to develop the manufacturing activities primarily through natural growth in Eastern Europe and Asia.
