VITAHEMP MEETING WITH DEPARTMENT OF PRIMARY INDUSTRIES

Sydney, May 11, 2017 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Andrew Kavasilas, Technical Director of Vitahemp and Medical Cannabis Limited (MCL) will be meeting this morning with a senior policy advisor from the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), at the cabinet office, to provide his assistance to the DPI in developing the detailed components of the newly approved decision to allow the consumption of hempseed food in Australia, and in developing world class legal standards for the hemp seed food industry.

He will also discuss the details of the synergies between Vitahemp and the Department in appropriately developing the newly approved industry of hemp seed food and products. This is intended to assist the rapid and lucrative development of the now newly emerging hemp seed food industry. Mr. Kavasilas is also secretary of the Australian Hemp Party.

This meeting follows the recent historic Ministerial approval of allowing hemp food consumption in Australia which is to be implemented later this year.

Ministers have also supported the establishment of an Implementation and Monitoring working group focusing on hemp seed food related issues. Mr Kavasilas, will also be discussing his possible involvement in being a part of this working group.

Minister for Primary Industries, Niall Blair MP, has welcomed the decision to approve low THC hemp seeds for sale as food. (Ministerial media release 28 April 2017).

Mr. Kavasilas has been growing low THC hemp seed over many years and has developed a unique Australian based hemp seed bank. With the currently approved licences to grow hemp as previously announced, Vitahemp is now perfectly positioned to be at the forefront of Australian made hemp seed food products. Vitahemp is a subsidiary of MCL.

Vitahemp will now allocate resources and investment to grow and produce its own legal hemp seed foods, to an approved food code with relevant oversight with enforceable food handling laws to the highest Australian standards which is recognised worldwide.

Vitahemp began the process to establish 'Trade Standards' in relation to hemp seed foods in 2015. Andrew Kavasilas said: "We attempted to address this issue seriously back in 2015 during negotiations with NSW Department of Trade and Investment and Southern Cross University (SCU). The initiative was placed in abeyance due to its status and illegality for human consumption of hemp seed foods at the time.

"The latest approval for hemp seed food will give enough time to fast track our winter cropping plans and expand to incorporate contract farmers with buy-back options for Vitahemp to build its seed stock and be the first major player in this exciting and nutritional new industry."

Pnina Feldman, Executive Chairperson of QBL (googlechartASX:QBL), said: "We aim to strengthen the entire industry by supporting a National Alliance that will give greater security to permitted farmers, producers, manufacturers, and consumers alike. This will ensure that world class Trade Standards are set, met and enforced in relation to Australian grown hemp seed.

"Apart from MCL's business plan to produce cash flow and its progressive involvement in medical Cannabis research, Vitahemp's aim utilising its "first mover advantage" is to become one of Australia's leading, if not the leading producer of hemp seed food and products."
