Mec & The Maid Brings a Touch of Classic Style To The New Gen Show at Savoir Faire Perth Fashion Week

New York, Mar 26, 2012 AEST (ABN Newswire) - (Global Fashion Wire) - Perth clothing label Mec & The Maid will be conveying their love of classic style by bringing the art nouveau period into the future this Spring/Summer. With sinuous lines, natural forms & a dash of the curvaceous aspects of architectural designs, the collection will be showcased at the much anticipated New Gen Show at Savoir Faires Perth Fashion Week this April.

The Emantiem S/S Collection is inspired by Steinlens Posters, Klimts provocative paintings & various aspects of the classic shapes incorporated into decorative products and architecture of the period. The collection is a result of the dissection and then recombination of key iconic elements of the period into unique fashion garments.

Part of the collection, the Cocorico Dress, which was inspired by Steinlens 'Cocorico Poster Art' accentuates the curves represented in the poster and uses them to compliment the feminine shape. The Stones Throw Away Shorts takes elements from Klimt's "Forrest of Beech Trees" and brings together the elements of nature & colour palette; and is designed to highlight the elements of the female shape.

With Mec & the Maid's love for bringing the old into what they concede as the new, the Emantiem S/S Collection has been designed to capture the beautiful feminine aspects of a past era and bring these to the women of today.

About Mec and the Maid

Emerging French/Australian fashion designer Sara Poguet has drawn on her French and Australian heritage to develop a whimsical and feminine fashion range that, with a modern twist, reflects the romantic Art Nouveau period popular in the 1910 -1920 period. Art Nouveau stands for 'new art' and Sara has - with sinuous lines, natural forms, colours and style inspired by forms in nature and the curvaceous aspects of architectural design - delivered a flowing new young translation of this sophisticated and established philosophy of art.

"My interest in design and art has been life-long and strongly connected with nature, colour and flowing forms. This has informed my jewellery design, my recent large artwork and installations and now I have moved my fascination to my work in fashion. Artists such a Gustav Klimt and Mackintosh have been central to that inspiration and their influence can be seen in my work. I love the idea of the old and the new coming together, a fusion of my European roots and a modern natural Australian sensibility."

In addition to her talent for fashion Sara has developed a keen interest in social justice and combines her manufacturing trips to Asia with voluntary work in Australian-funded orphanages in Indonesia. She has also used the tools of her craft to produce children's painting on canvas for auction. "Giving back is high on my personal agenda and will be a theme of my fashion, my art and my career for years to come I am sure. The 'art of giving' is one of the most important values in the world to me. Perhaps it is Art Nouveau, the new art!"
