Rodinia Breakup Implications for Petroleum Systems in Amadeus and Georgina Basins

Sydney, Jan 25, 2012 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Central Petroleum Limited (googlechartASX:CTP) ("Central" or the "Company") is pleased to advise the release of a Technical Note by Greg Ambrose, Manager Geology, "The breakup of the Rodinia Supercontinent and its impact on petroleum systems in the Amadeus and Georgina Basins."

The Technical Note concludes, interalia, that global correlations of Late Neoproterozoic and Middle Cambrian source rock sequences from the Amadeus, Georgina and Wiso (Lander Trough) basins suggest that their potential for both conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon accumulations has been underestimated, considering the prolific hydrocarbon production from equivalent petroleum systems in Oman and on the Siberian Platform in Russia, and to some extent in the Sichuan Basin China.

Salt structures, (halotectonic structures) play a big role over much of these basins in forming hydrocarbon traps.
